Holiday Stovetop Potpourri – Fit Foodie Finds


My favorite way to make holiday cheer is with stovetop potpourri! Let this holiday simmer pot simmer all day long to keep your house smelling fresh and delicious.

We first posted this stovetop potpourri recipe a few years ago on Instagram and it went absolutely viral and rightfully so. Not only is this holiday simmer pot gorgeous, but it will make your house smell like citrus and pine all day long.

Simply simmer sliced citrus, pine, cloves, and cranberries on the stovetop to release the delicious scent each ingredient has to offer.

What You Need to Make this Holiday Simmer Pot Recipe

  • Medium pot
  • Water
  • Oranges
  • Cranberries
  • Pine/Rosemary
  • Whole Cloves

Stovetop Potpourri Variations

There are so many different holiday stovetop potpourri variations! You can use whatever fruit you like as well as any whole spices you have on hand. It’s really all about the flavors YOU love.

One of my personal favorites is apple pie — apple slices, lemons, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves.

Other ingredients to try:

  • Lemons
  • Grapefruit
  • Apples
  • Limes
  • Star anis
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Essential oils
  • Apple juice
  • Apple cider
  • Cranberry juice

Can I add more water once it all evaporates?

Adding water is a great idea to make your simmer pot last even longer! Feel free to continue to add water as it evaporates.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium orange sliced
  • 3 sprigs of rosemary or pine
  • ½ cup frozen or fresh cranberries
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 4 cups water
  • Optional Ingredients
  • 2-3 drops of pine essential oil

Instructions 

  • Add the orange slices, sprigs, cranberries, and whole cloves to a small saucepan.

  • Cover the ingredients with water and bring to a boil over high heat.

  • Turn the heat to low. Simmer for the desired amount of time, adding water as needed to ensure the water doesn’t dissolve. Be sure not to leave the simmering spices on the stove unattended.

Tips & Notes

  • We recommend using pine sprigs, but if you are unable to find pine, use rosemary and pine essential oil for optimal holiday scent.
  • As your water evaporates, feel free to add more to keep the delicious scent coming!
