I have been overwhelmed with my closet as of late, so that’s meant purchasing a lot less until I could figure out what to purge. As fall approaches, new styles are dropping that are finally interesting enough for me to be extra motivated to clean up the excess hanging around my bedroom. Target launched a new set of Future Collective styles, as well as some new fall/transitional styles in their house brands. I placed an order and did a try-on on TikTok, and wanted to share that info here as well.
Note: I have a Target Storefront where I update it regularly with my favorite Target finds. All the items I feature in this post are under “Fall Plus Size Fashion.”
Sizing info: Most of these items are available in sizes XS-4X. I’m 5’10 with a long torso and apron belly and am wearing the 4X in all items.
Sleeveless Contrasting Knit Ankle Dress – Future Collective
This dress grabbed my attention first with the new Future Collective items. It’s a drop waist dress. The top is a thick material with slight stretch, but the bottom is like a windbreaker-type fabric. It will definitely make “swooshy” sounds when you walk. The skirt is voluminous, but the top doesn’t stretch much so I’d advise against sizing down. I really like it in person, if you can handle the noise of the fabric. I’m going to play around with how to style it with layers – drop waists aren’t something I typically wear but it’s a fun challenge.
Long Sleeve Drop Waist Ankle Dress – Future Collective Floral
This dress is good for a fall transition. The fabric is a lightweight stretch knit that gets slightly transparent when fully stretched out. I could see this layering well with a moto jacket and boots. It’s very comfortable. It has an asymmetrical drop waist seam, which is interesting, but I don’t think it really does much to differentiate it from any other maxi dress. Still, it’s nice for warmer fall weather.
Women’s Sequin Midi Skirt – Future Collective Champagne
Women’s Nipped Waist Cardigan – Future Collective
Women’s Slim Fit Seamless Tank Top
I never pass up a good sequin, so this champagne sequin skirt was a must-add to my cart. It’s nice quality and has a pretty eyelash lace detail peeking out at the bottom hem. There is stretch, so it’s comfortable to wear.
The cardigan is designed to be “nipped waist” when buttoned, but I didn’t love the way it looked closed – kind of like a busted can of biscuits at the bottom- on purpose! But it’s nice length and nice material. It also comes in more of a tan shade. I think with denim it would be a good piece to hand onto. I wouldn’t style it with this skirt.
The seamless tank top was a surprise. I bought it to go underneath a sheer sweater (below) and it’s a really nice base layer. There is a shelf bra inside, but it doesn’t really give any support. I’m going to pick this up in a few other colors because it’s such a nice and smooth underlayer. It will snag easily, so just beware of that if you’re wearing it as a main layer.
Women’s Drop Waist Pleated Ankle Skirt – Future Collective
Women’s Slim Fit Seamless Tank Top
Again, with the drop waist! In the past, I wouldn’t have even attempted to try any of these on, but it’s good to try new things. I loved the navy of the skirt – it looks expensive, even though it’s just a poly of some sort. For me, this reads as an ultra high rise pleated skirt since I need to have it on my natural waist (which is high) to fit properly. It also comes in a cream print. I think if you’re more straight/column shaped and less apple shaped, it might be a totally different look on you.
Women’s Crewneck Sheer Sweater – Future Collective
Women’s Leisure Studio Fleece Maxi Skirt
Women’s Slim Fit Seamless Tank Top
This is a sheer sweater and doesn’t include a shell, so beware of that if you order. It also comes in black. I really like the look of this for a sheer layer, but will say that if you have sensory issues with textured fabric that this may not be for you. It’s not scratchy, but does have texture that I think might be an issue for some people.
This skirt is a revelation. It’s fleece! Elastic waist! Internal drawstring! Pockets! Basically, the perfect casual bottom when you want to be comfy but not schlumpy. The comfort of baggy sweatpants with the look of a maxi skirt with a front slit. It also comes in gray.
Do you have any question about these styles? What are you shopping for during this in-between time?
